Surgical Services
At River's Edge Animal Hospital, we believe in providing expert care with kindness at its core. We offer a variety of state-of-the-art surgical options designed to ensure your pet's safety, comfort, and quick recovery. Whether your pet needs a routine procedure or advanced surgery, we’re here to guide you through every step of the process.
Laser Surgery
Using the latest laser technology, we make surgery less painful and recovery faster. Laser surgery reduces bleeding, minimizes inflammation, and shortens recovery time compared to traditional methods, getting your pet back on their paws in no time.
Routine & Advanced Surgical Procedures
From spays and neuters to more complex surgeries such as mass removals, cesarean sections, abdominal procedures, and advanced orthopedic surgeries, we offer a broad range of surgical services on-site. Whatever the procedure, our experienced team ensures your pet receives the highest level of care.
Orthopedic Procedures
We provide expert care for your pet's musculoskeletal system, including fracture repairs, joint surgeries, and advanced orthopedic procedures. Our goal is to ensure your pet’s mobility and comfort are restored, helping them lead an active, pain-free life.
State-of-the-Art Anesthesia
Each surgical procedure is carefully managed with tailored anesthesia to meet your pet’s unique needs. We utilize many of the same medications and monitoring devices found in human hospitals. We use Isoflurane, a highly safe gas anesthetic, and several medications for pain relief and comfort resulting in a balanced anesthesia with minimal side effects. We continuously monitor heart function, blood pressure, and respiratory rate to ensure a smooth procedure. A dedicated veterinary nurse stays with your pet throughout the entire process, ensuring their comfort and safety.
Each Surgery Includes the Following:
- Pre-Surgical Physical Exam: A thorough check-up to ensure your pet is ready for surgery.
- Review of Pre-Surgical Blood Work: We assess your pet’s blood cells, blood glucose, liver, and kidney function to ensure they are in good health for anesthesia and surgery.
- Surgical Procedure: This covers the veterinarian’s time and the surgical assistant’s time for the procedure itself.
- Anesthesia: We use Isoflurane, an extremely safe gas anesthetic, to ensure your pet remains comfortable and pain-free during surgery.
- Use of a sterile Operating Room: This includes patient preparation, monitoring, and recovery, all overseen by a dedicated veterinary assistant.
- IV Fluids: Your pet will have an IV catheter placed to receive warmed IV fluids, supporting normal blood pressure and temperature while under anesthesia.
- Cardiac and Pulmonary Monitoring: We carefully monitor your pet’s heart function and respiration to ensure safety during anesthesia.
- Pain Management: Your pet will receive an injection for pain control before and after surgery, along with additional pain medication for at-home care.
- Post-Operative Monitoring: Our veterinary nurse or assistant will monitor your pet’s recovery closely until they are ready to go home.
- Dismissal Instructions: The veterinarian will provide clear post-operative instructions and answer any questions regarding your pet’s care during recovery.
We are committed to ensuring your pet receives the best possible surgical care, with safety and comfort as our top priorities.
