Dr. Kerrie Blackburn

Dr. Kerri Blackburn

Veterinarian

Dr. Blackburn hails from the Pacific Northwest, prior to settling in the Carolinas. She loves the mixture of mountains and coastline that this area offers and is excited to raise her family and practice in such beautiful surroundings. Dr. Blackburn loves the challenges posed by veterinary medicine and truly enjoys working with families to diagnose and treat their beloved pet's illnesses and maintain optimum health in their furry family members. Her special interests include general wellness care, ultrasound, internal medicine, nutrition, surgery, and oncology. Dr. Blackburn serves as the Medical Director for Rivers Edge Animal Hospital.

Dr. Blackburn attended the University of South Florida for her undergraduate degree in microbiology and received her veterinary degree from the University of Florida in 2007. She also completed an internship with Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Florida. Dr. Blackburn has continued to pursue knowledge in ultrasound, endoscopy and advanced medicine through numerous continuing education opportunities through the years. She is also a member of the AVMA, NCVMA, SCVMA, World Vets and in a network of Emergency preparedness vets for disasters in South and North Carolina.

When not working, Dr. Blackburn enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, as well as her beloved dog Kaya and her equally loved cat Stache. She can also be found hiking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking and practicing yoga and pursuing artistic endeavors such as painting and lapidary arts/metalwork.

Dr. Andrea Olson

Veterinarian

Dr. Olson was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but she has been happy to call the Carolinas home for the past six years. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Although she enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, Dr. Olson is particularly interested in dentistry, ultrasonography, and dermatology.

Away from work, Dr. Olson enjoys spending time with her husband and their three young children. They share their home with Jack, their sweet, gentle yellow Lab who has been blind since puppyhood. Dr. Olson loves being active, spending time outdoors, reading, and cheering on the Irish every football season. She’s excited to be a part of River's Edge Animal Hospital and looks forward to meeting you and your furry family members!

Dr. Amy Tanis

Veterinarian

Dr. Amy Tanis was born and raised in New Jersey, but she is happy to call warm and sunny South Carolina home! Dr. Tanis completed her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University and for veterinary school she attended the University of Florida (where she graduated alongside Dr. Blackburn in 2007!). After graduation, she participated in an equine internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center. Upon completion, Dr. Tanis realized small animal medicine was something she enjoyed and began working in a mixed animal practice for 7 years before moving to the Carolinas.

Dr. Tanis is passionate about working closely with clients and their pets – getting to know their family and learning about their bond is an important aspect of her approach to veterinary medicine. She has a special interest in nutrition, dermatology and integrative aspects of veterinary medicine.

When Dr. Tanis is home, she is spending time with her husband, 5 children, and their dog Sojo. Together, they love sports and are often busy heading to a soccer game, wrestling match or dance competition. Running, spending time in nature and learning more about nutrition and health are her favorite pastimes… aside from working as a professional kid taxi driver of course!

Dr. Nancy Smith

Veterinarian

Dr. Nancy Smith was born in Fayetteville, NC, but she grew up an Army brat and has lived all over the world. She received her undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and graduated from Mississippi State's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She has lived and worked in different parts of Florida for 20 years, and is happy to be back in the Carolinas! She takes particular interest in dermatology, internal medicine, and dentistry, as well as the routine vaccinations and wellness care that help our pets live happy, healthy lives.

Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys being outdoors, and can't wait to explore the state parks in the area. She enjoys riding her bicycle and going on treasure hunts in flea markets and antique stores, and loves curling up with a murder mystery book to solve. She also stays busy with one scruffy mutt dog, five cats with varying levels of sanity, a turtle with an attitude, and the world's fastest mouse.
